This actually something I got from a faith based class. As paychecks or regular time based funds come in they are deposited in "envelopes". Really "old school" people like cash in envelopes but, my credit union, Educators Credit Union, allows you to create multiple sub accounts that I use as envelopes. Income is divided up among these accounts and when the utility, mortgage, kids child care bills come up money is in the "envelope". As with any budget, it takes a little time to decide how to divide funds but once going very little adjustment is needed.
