The birth of our oldest son was far from anything we expected. He was born via emergency c-section, six hours before our medical insurance started. A major surgery and three days of hospital care later, we found ourselves with nearly $40,000 worth of medical bills. Even though it took us multiple years to finally get out from under this burden, I attribute our success to a lot of little changes. First of all, we stopped eating out. Making our meals from scratch at home was not only healthier, but it saved us a lot of money! We cut corners wherever we could, kept a rigid budget, and applied any extra money to our bills. This allowed us to stay focused and watch the debt shrink, little by little.
