When you use @mentioning, you alert people, places, and content that you’re talking about them. A notification of this activity flows into the Activity stream. The person or person's content you @mention will also show up in their Inbox, where they will be directly notified of the mention. You can use @mentioning in status updates, direct messages, discussions, documents, blogs, and comments on content.

@mentioning also livens up and offers quick links for student users. For example, when answering a student question, you may want to direct them to a specific person, place, document, or discussion. See the example below: Everywhere you see a link, @mentioning has been applied:

As you can see, the @mentions make the response more collaborative and interesting, thus encouraging the end user to click. Try to use @mentioning wherever possible in SALT Central.

How to @mention:

  1. In any piece of content, status update, or comment, type the “@” symbol (or click the “@” icon if it is available) and start typing a person’s name, the title of a space, or piece of content you want to bring visibility to. A search dialog opens and suggests possible matches.
  2. Use an underscore “_” as a space to search for names or titles with multiple words. For example @David_B would match the Davids whose last names begin with “B.” Your picker will include documents, discussions, and places, as well as people. Keep typing to narrow the choices further.
  3. Select the correct match from the list. The new link shows up in your content.
